2012 Awards
The Fewster Cecchetti Scholarship and the Barbara Geoghegan Award are annual awards. In 2012 they will take place on Sunday 25th November at the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London as part of the Cecchetti Classical Ballet Awards.
Vocational students studying the Cecchetti method at Intermediate level and above can participate in one or both of the Awards. Candidates for both awards take part in the same adjudicated class on stage; whilst those wishing to be considered for the Barbara Geoghegan Award go on to perform their choice of classical variation.
Fewster Cecchetti Scholarship
This scholarship was started by Miss Barbara Fewster, a former principal of the Royal Ballet Lower School, White Lodge. Miss Fewster was a great proponent of the Cecchetti method. The award of £1000 comprises £100 to the successful competitor plus a further £900 for furtherence of Cecchetti training which is made in three payments during the year. A special award of £100, donated personally by Miss Fewster, will be made to a promising male student, should he not win the scholarship.
The competition is open to male and female students, aged at least 15 years by the 31st August of the year of entry, and be in training at a vocational school, or further or higher educational establishment. They should either have passed the Cecchetti Intermediate Examination(or above) or be studying the Cecchetti Method. The competition consists of an unset class at Intermediate level on stage at the Lilian Baylis Studio.

Barbara Geoghegan Award
This award was created in 1998 to honour Barbara Geoghegan in recognition of her devotion to the promotion of the Cecchetti Method over many years. The award is a bronze figure of a ballet dancer which is held by the winner for one year and prize money up to £1000. The award is open to male and female students who hold an Intermediate Certificate (or above) in the Cecchetti Method, are aged at least 16 and under 21 years on 31st August of the year of entry and who are studying at vocational or non-vocational schools.
Candidates participate in the same unset class on stage along with Fewster Scholarship Competitors but in addition perform their choice of classical variation.
